​To arrive in Tortuguero, leave San Jose from the Caribe bus station.  Buses depart at 9:00am and arrive in Cariari at 11:00am.  Tickets cost 1450 colones.



When you arrive in Cariari, walk 300 meters to the Coopetraca bus station.  You will buy a ticket from the ticket window for 1000 colones.  The bus departs at 11:30 and arrives at the Pavona at 1:20.  This trip will take you past authentic banana plantations and cattle farms.



At the Pavona, you will board a boat to Tortuguero between 1:20 and 2:30 depending on the level of water in the river.  The boat ride costs 1600 colones.



When you arrive at the dock in Tortuguero, several guides will meet you as you disembark.  They will try to sell you tours and confuse you.  If you have made previous arrangements, please honor them.
